United Airlines texted me about their summer specials and, never able to pass up a good deal, I booked two economy tickets to New York City for the end of August. The special rate limited us to seats at the very back of the plane and personal items only, but we pack light.
This trip included lots of Central Park time, a spin class for me on the Upper East side, a stop in Harlem, shopping on Fifth Avenue, and – best of all- a guided fishing trip in Central Park.
The fishing trip was an absolute blast, and I will forever recommend that anyone visiting New York check out Experience the Ultimate Guided Fishing Adventure and book at trip with Seth.
Other trip highlights included:
-Renting a miniature sailboat the Central Park Conservatory Pond; added bonus that there is a cafe/coffee shop too.
-Seeing a show on Broadway; we saw “The Book of Mormon” this time and it was hysterical although I did get the joy of explaining of some interesting things to my 12-year old. However, if slightly inappropriate humor – which is a middle school kids’ favorite type of humor- gets my kid to enjoy a musical and get some culture, sign me up. This show probably put the final nail in the coffin on my son’s acceptance of organized religion, but that doesn’t bother me at all.
-Spin class at CycleBar on the Upper East Side. This stop was exclusively for me as Cole did not join me, but I was proud of myself for sticking to my routine even while traveling and there was something cool about riding a bike nowhere in NYC. I feel less badass riding to nowhere in Cedar Park.
-Central Park; we saw Central Park the last time we visited but we went all the way to Harlem this time and meandered our way back south. The last morning of our trip, Cole had his portrait sketched in the park. The artist was cash only, it took about 22-minutes total, and I gladly overpaid for a mat and cover to protect the portrait on our flight home.
-Fifth Avenue Shopping; I hate to shop and I hate crowds, but I love to shop on Fifth Avenue. The convenience of it, size and selection in the stores, and energy make for great shopping. Cole was disgusted with my crossbody bag (he calls it a fanny pack, much to my dismay) but he was happy to help me pick out a cool new bag, new Nike shoes and a sweatshirt. Cole learned how much the silver chain he wanted cost at Tiffany’s so we did visit the Macy’s flagship store too and we went to bicycle shop in Chelsea for the sunglasses Cole just had to have.
